Preliminary evidence suggests that most children carry the omicron strain of the coronavirus with no consequences for the body. Tatyana Ruzhentsova, deputy director of clinical work at the Moscow Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Gabrichevsky Rospotrebnadzor, told TASS about it.
According to the cardiologist, some juvenile patients still suffer from fatigue, headaches and a slight increase in temperature. In this case, children should be under the supervision of a doctor and, if necessary, undergo additional examination, Ruzhentsova stressed.
Earlier, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor at the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University (Virginia, USA), Ancha Baranova told Lente.ru that children are easy prey for the omicron strain due to the property thanks to which it is able to penetrate cells directly, bypassing the cellular protease TMPRSS2, without which infection did not occur before. In his opinion, the lack of vaccination in most children further aggravates the morbidity situation.
