WAYNE, Pa., January 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Facet Life Sciences, a leading provider of strategy and regulatory advisory services, today announced that it is divesting its popular Gemstone electronic document management system to an independent company named Kivo with new management and new investments.
Document management and collaboration platform Kivo
“The decision to create Gemstone reflects the potential the product has demonstrated in the market and our desire to empower a dedicated team to realize that potential,” said Facet CEO. Ken VanLuvanee. “The spin-out will allow the software to be the sole focus of leadership, allowing Kivo to build and expand on Gemstone’s impressive momentum over the past few years.”
Facet Life Sciences, founded in 2012, launched Gemstone in 2014 as a new electronic document management system for emerging life sciences companies. Over the next few years, enhancements such as submission assembly, collaboration, and authoring templates increased customer value and drove Gemstone’s adoption globally.
Kivo is leveraging existing product features that have been proven to reduce release times by 30% and has built an all-new platform, which is entering beta today, to enable a new generation of collaboration tools and management.
Kivo is led by a new management team, including Toban Zolman as president. Zolman is an industry veteran with experience scaling start-ups. Zolman was one of the first employees of New Jersey-based Image Solutions, Inc (ISI) to create electronic submission publishing tools before leading product development at FinOps company Cloudability and business leader of IoT Rigado.
“There has been surprisingly little innovation in the tools available to life science companies over the past decade,” Zolman said, “and small businesses have few cost-effective options. ‘bringing collaboration and management concepts that have become commonplace in other industries to the life sciences and enabling sponsors to accelerate time to approval.’
Facet and Kivo will maintain a strategic partnership. Facet’s regulatory affairs experts will continue to use Kivo and contribute to Kivo’s product development roadmap. “Kivo offers the fastest route from document concept to regulatory submission. This is the foundational technology that allows our regulatory services group to simultaneously manage a large number of projects with multiple companies,” said Facet Life Sciences COO and Vice President of Research and Development. , Lisa Jenkins Van Luvanee, Ph.D. “The new Kivo platform will allow us to do even more for our customers and allow Kivo customers to optimize their own regulated development in a way never before possible.”
