With up to a million species on the verge of extinction in the coming decades, Revive & Restore needs a brilliant communications director who can give a compelling voice to our conservation story.

Who we are:

At Revive & Restore, we are building a new gene rescue toolkit to apply biotechnology to some of the toughest biodiversity challenges. Our projects demonstrate the measurable impact biotechnology can have on wildlife by improving genetic diversity, helping to build disease resistance, developing synthetic alternatives to wild harvesting, and facilitating adaptation to climate change.

We are the leading conservation organization promoting the incorporation of genetic tools into standard conservation practice, bringing together academic or commercial laboratories advancing science and conservation practitioners working in the field. Revive & Restore has three distinct roles as a convener, as a science coordinator and advocate, and, increasingly, as a funder – advancing the science needed to build the new conservation toolkit.

Who are you:

We are looking for an experienced communicator with enthusiasm to create communication plans that bring complex projects and initiatives to life. You are a strategic and innovative writer with good judgment, but also a storyteller capable of creating high-impact communications. You are versatile in identifying, addressing and engaging diverse audiences such as the media, the scientific community, corporate sponsors, donors, government agencies and the public across multiple stakeholder demographics. In the ideal world, you are also a strong advocate… for conservation and wildlife.

How you can help:

We are looking for someone who can help us change the current narrative of conservation from one based on fear to one filled with thoughtful plans. Intended consequences to save endangered species.

Working closely with the Executive Director, staff, Board members and international partners, you will help articulate the work and positioning of the organization in the area of ​​conservation. The ability to dig deeper into complex issues with experts and distill that information to a wide variety of audiences through an array of communication formats is your forte.

Domains you would manage:

Content development (35%)

    Provide leadership on communications strategy and key messages for the organization Develop content for press releases, presentation slide decks, editorials, internal and external reports, conference documents, event summaries Develop communications to engage new donors and achieve philanthropic goals. Draft and create donor engagement documents, annual reports and proposal writing support.

Public relations and medias
(30 %)

    Develop media calendar and communications strategies Assess and respond appropriately to media inquiries and requests Maintain media roster and cultivate relationships with key press Develop internal strategy and processes to track and deliver coverage media Help develop scripts for video content, media research and interview assistance approved media interviews with Revive & Restore staff and researchers and provided back-up materials to prepare staff for interviews

Website content (20%)

    Write, edit, retouch photos and create compelling content for the website, which creatively conveys our work and conservation impact Source of photos, especially images of wildlife and appropriate biotechnology, and management photo rights Track web analytics and use data to optimize site engagement Manage scope of work and oversee external web designers

Communication & Project Managementyou (15%)

    Coordinating web launches, press releases and special events will require excellent project management and internal communications with staff scientists and external partners

Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree preferred in journalism, communications, life sciences (ideal in biological sciences) or related field Minimum 5 years of experience in communications or public relations – ideally in science or conservation organizations, and an understanding of the life cycle news and media environment Excellent communication skills (written, oral, interpersonal and group presentation) and demonstrated ability to explain complex concepts to a wide audience Compelling storytelling Demonstrated project management experience Comfortable user of social media and other information technologies such as e-marketing tools (Mailchimp, Salesforce), web publishing (WordPress), social media platforms, Google Suite applications, photo curation and Google Analytics for maximum SEO Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines at once and willing to work provide occasional weekend and/or evening support to important events General office and administrative support needed to be a small, collaborative, dynamic team

Prefer

    Knowledge and experience of content strategy, UI/UX best practices and methods, and web accessibility best practices Demonstrated ability to adapt and be flexible as needed

Location: This position will be a hybrid of remote and on-site work. Bay Area location preferred but not required.
