Research and Innovation Services (RIS) provide expert advice and assistance with research funding and contracting, research integrity and governance, technology transfer and intellectual property commercialization , collaboration with industry and public engagement in research.

The University of Southampton now has an exciting opportunity for someone to join RIS’s successful and dynamic technology transfer team as the Technology Transfer Manager for our disciplines of Life Sciences, Health and Healthcare. Medicine. The successful candidate will work with a portfolio of projects comprising pioneering developments in cancer immunology, regenerative medicine, respiratory medicine, epigenetics, cell imaging, next generation diagnostics, medical devices and drug discovery. We also have a growing portfolio of medical and health related innovations emanating from our physical sciences and engineering disciplines.
Previous business experience is highly desirable but is not essential as long as you can demonstrate your ability to commercially assess potential opportunities, form excellent partnerships with and advise leading academic research groups, and network with the industry for collaboration and licensing. Knowledge of translation and marketing in the medical, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries is a definite advantage.
In this role:
- You will lead a broad portfolio of commercialization projects to improve the impact of the University, including a goal of further increasing our intellectual property revenues;
- You will establish key relationships with senior academic staff in the Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Life Sciences and other key departments to understand their research expertise and identify new commercialization opportunities; and
- You will need to be self-reliant, enjoy the dynamic challenge of developing and developing new opportunities, and have very strong interpersonal skills to be successful in working in large collaborative teams.
